Shopify app costs by category: 2026 price guide

What does a normal email app cost? Reviews? Subscriptions? This is the reference guide for typical, premium, and overpriced — by category.

One of the hardest parts of managing your Shopify app stack is not knowing what's normal. Is $120/month for email expensive? Is $80/month for reviews reasonable?

Without a benchmark, merchants end up on legacy plans, overpay for unused tiers, or assume a high price means high quality. This guide gives you the reference ranges you need to evaluate every line item on your Shopify bill.

Pricing ranges reflect current market rates across major apps in each category. "Typical" is what most small-to-medium merchants pay. "Premium" is enterprise or high-volume pricing.

Category breakdown

The table above gives you the ranges. Here's the context that makes those numbers actionable.

Email marketing

Typical:$20–150/moCompare apps →

Cost scales with list size. Most apps charge by subscribers or email sends. Klaviyo is the market leader and typically the priciest. Omnisend and Privy offer better value at smaller list sizes.

Watch for

Paying for a list you're not actively emailing. Lists over 10K but open rates under 15% suggest a list quality problem, not a tool problem.

SMS marketing

Typical:$20–100/moCompare apps →

SMS apps typically charge a base fee plus per-message credits. Postscript, SMSBump (Yotpo SMS), and Attentive are the main players. Many email platforms (Klaviyo, Omnisend) now include SMS, making a standalone SMS tool redundant.

Watch for

Running both a standalone SMS app and an email platform with SMS. You're paying twice for the same channel.

Reviews & ratings

Typical:$15–50/moCompare apps →

Judge.me is the dominant free option and covers most stores' needs. Premium plans add Google Shopping syndication, Q&A features, and loyalty integration. Loox and Okendo sit at the higher end of the market.

Watch for

Paying $80+/month for a review app you chose for features you've never actually set up or used.

Loyalty & rewards

Typical:$50–150/moCompare apps →

Smile.io dominates the market. Pricing jumps significantly between tiers based on monthly orders. Rivo and LoyaltyLion compete with different feature profiles. At enterprise volume, percentage-of-revenue models become expensive fast.

Watch for

Upgrading tiers to unlock features before confirming your program has enough active engagement to justify the cost.

Subscriptions

Typical:$50–100/mo + 1–2% revenueCompare apps →

Recharge and Loop charge a percentage of subscription revenue. Skio and Bold offer flat-rate alternatives. The percentage model can become very expensive at scale — a $50K/month subscription business pays $500–1,000/month on top of base fees to Recharge.

Watch for

Revenue percentage models at high subscription volume. At $30K+/month in subscriptions, flat-rate pricing typically wins.

Shipping & fulfillment

Typical:$20–60/moCompare apps →

Shopify's native shipping covers most stores under 200 orders/month. Third-party apps (ShipStation, Easyship, Pirateship) add multi-carrier rate shopping and advanced fulfillment workflows. The break-even on a third-party shipping app is usually 300+ orders/month.

Watch for

Paying for a third-party shipping app while primarily using Shopify Shipping rates anyway.

Returns management

Typical:$20–80/moCompare apps →

Loop Returns is the premium option. AfterShip Returns and ReturnGO offer lower-cost alternatives. Shopify's native returns handling works for stores with simple return policies and low return volume.

Watch for

Premium returns apps for stores with low return rates. At under 5% return rate, native Shopify returns usually suffice.

Page builder

Typical:$30–60/moCompare apps →

PageFly, GemPages, and Shogun are the main players. The ROI depends entirely on whether you actively build and publish new pages. Most merchants overpay because they installed a page builder for one campaign and forgot to cancel.

Watch for

Multiple page builders installed simultaneously, or an active subscription with no pages published in the last 60 days.

Upsell & cross-sell

Typical:$15–60/moCompare apps →

ReConvert, Honeycomb, and Bold Upsell are the market leaders. Some apps charge a percentage of attributed upsell revenue instead of (or in addition to) a flat fee. ROI is highly attributable — if the dashboard shows low revenue, the app isn't earning its cost.

Watch for

Apps taking a commission percentage without a cap. High-AOV stores can end up paying multiples of the flat fee.

Customer support

Typical:$50–150/moCompare apps →

Gorgias is the Shopify-native leader, priced by conversation volume. Tidio and Re:amaze are lower-cost alternatives. Most stores under 100 support tickets/month don't need Gorgias — it's designed for volume.

Watch for

Enterprise support tools for stores with under 50 tickets/month. The price-per-ticket economics rarely work at low volumes.

Analytics & attribution

Typical:$50–150/mo

Triple Whale, Northbeam, and Polar Analytics are the main players. These tools make sense when you're actively optimizing paid channels — they help reconcile Meta/Google attribution. For stores under $100K/month revenue without a paid media budget, Shopify's native analytics usually covers the basics.

Watch for

Paying $300+/month for an analytics tool if nobody on the team is actively looking at it weekly.

SEO apps

Typical:$10–40/mo

The Shopify SEO app market is crowded with tools that do what Shopify handles natively. Image compression, meta tag editors, and sitemap generators have diminishing returns. The honest answer: for most stores, $0 in SEO apps + quality content investments outperforms $60/month in SEO tools.

Watch for

Multiple SEO apps installed simultaneously — very common, rarely necessary.

What a typical stack costs

A well-configured Shopify store for a merchant doing $200K–$500K GMV typically looks like this:

Email marketing (Klaviyo or Omnisend)$80–120/mo
Reviews (Judge.me Pro)$15/mo
Upsell (ReConvert)$30/mo
Shipping (ShipStation or Shopify Shipping)$30–50/mo
Support (Gorgias starter)$50/mo
Analytics (Shopify native or Polar)$0–50/mo
Total$205–315/mo

If your bill is significantly above this for the same GMV tier, you're a good candidate for an audit.
